چکیده

Nowadays IT and telecom worlds and specifically all network, service, and content providers show special interest in multiservice delivery. The concurrent provision of video or TV content, voice, and fast Internet via the same network and user equipment, known as ‘‘triple play service’’, constitutes one of the major concerns in modern telecommunications due to the latest developments in the areas of video and audio encoding which strain the capacity of content delivery systems. The combination of the above technologies has raised significant quality of service related issues. Problems such as full exploitation of available bandwidth, providing adequate quality of service to subscribers and meeting the requirements of all three supported services (video, voice, and data), must be addressed. Based on this framework, the paper examines the performance of the most common packet scheduling techniques (PQ, WFQ, WFQ-LL) used in IP triple play architecture, considering also two different packetization schemes applied to single-layer video. The performance of these scheduling algorithms is assessed, in order to propose the most appropriate solution, supporting the triple play bundle. The evaluation of schedulers is based on simulations designed taking into account existing triple play networks, while trace files are used for the simulation of video flows. & 2008 Elsevier Ltd. A New Fairness Index and Novel Approach for QoS-Aware Resource Allocation in LTE Networks Based on Utility Functions

Resource allocation techniques have recently appeared as a widely recognized feature in LTE networks. Most of existing approaches in resource allocation focus on maximizing network’s utility functions. The great potential of utility function in improving resource allocation and enhancing fairness and mean opinion score (MOS) indexes has attracted large efforts over the last few years. In this p...

A DVB/IP QoS aware Backhaul Networking Environment

The paper discusses a DVB/IP backhaul networking environment that enables users to access triple-play IP services at a guaranteed end-to-end QoS level. Utilising the DVB-T stream in a regenerative configuration, it presents the formation of a QoS aware backhaul that interconnects intermediate distribution nodes and service/content providers (e.g. ISPs, IPTV multicasters, etc.), for enabling alw...

Performance Analysis of Triple Play Services over WiMax Access Broadband Technology

The main objectives of this paper is to examine the performance of the wireless broadband infrastructures and their support for Triple Play services under different separated scenarios by using OPNET Modeler 14.5. This simulation network uses several features to study the performances of WiMax on Triple Play services, 3.5GHz band is chosen in our studies because it is widely used band all over ...

Performance Evaluation of Triple Play Services Delivery with E2E QoS Provisioning

The creation and wide use of new high quality demanding services (VoIP, High Quality Video Streaming) and the delivery of them over already saturated core and access network infrastructures have created the necessity for E2E QoS provisioning. Network Providers use at their infrastructures several kinds of mechanisms and techniques for providing QoS. Most known and widely used technologies are M...

Admission region of triple-play services in wireless home networks

A heterogeneous wired and wireless network architecture is considered for home networks to support Internet Protocol TV (IPTV), voice, and data, the so-called triple-play services. To satisfy the quality of service (QoS) requirements for different traffic classes, class-based queueing (CBQ) is deployed at home gateways and routers. To estimate the network capacity and decide on an appropriate r...
